Essay on The company is Walmart Stores, Inc.Essay Writing Service
Essay on The company is Walmart Stores, Inc.Essay Writing Service Essay on The company is Walmart Stores, Inc. Essay on The company is Walmart Stores, Inc.It is important for any organization to have a code of ethics in order to guide employees how to behave in ambiguous situations and to share the principles of ethical behavior accepted in the organization. The purpose of this paper is to select a company, to identify whether this company uses a code of conduct, to analyze this code if it exists and to draft a code of ethics if the company does not have one.The chosen company is Walmart Stores, Inc. This is a multinational retailer operating in 27 countries and running chains of discount stores and warehouse stores. Walmart pays significant attention to ethics: the company has a Global Ethics Office which is responsible for encouraging ethical decision-making and resolving ethics concerns (Walmart, 2014).Walmart has a separate document named The Statement of Ethics. This document is meant to share attitudes and values that create an ethical workplace and expected standards of ethical conduc t. The document also helps recognize ethically questionable situations and prompts how to act in such situations. The document includes letter on ethics from Walmart CEO, guiding principles, employee responsibilities, approaches to reporting ethical violations, principles of leading with integrity inside and outside the company, community ethical principles and relevant contact information. With regard to code content organizing principles outlined by Berenbeim (1999), Walmarts code of ethics pays moderate attention to the role of business, does not pay much attention to company autonomy aspect and focuses strongly on three next principles global business practice, ethical decision-making procedures and ethical decision-making environment.Walmarts code of ethics satisfies the stylistic requirements to such documents (Berenbeim, 1999): it is easy to read, has sufficient detail (but not excessive detail), is graphically appealing, is relevant for the industry and market and is firmly grounded on Walmarts key values. Similarly to other codes of ethics, Walmarts code addresses such questions as security of proprietary information, environmental responsibility, employee privacy, substance abuse, employee privacy, etc.It is notable that Walmarts code of ethics largely addresses potential internal ethical issues such as conflicts of interests and potential community ethical issues such as safety, environment, international trade, public relationships, etc. In general, Walmarts code of ethics has all the necessary elements described by Berenbeim (1999) and can be viewed as an example of an efficient code of ethics.

A Day in the Life of a Wind Farm Operator
A Day in the Life of a Wind Farm Operator Most of the people have always seen photos taken from turbine tops though they are never aware of what the technicians do up there. In the article, a crew working at the Bull Hill Wind farm is studied by a photographer. This is a 34-MW wind farm that is located in Maine. The wind farm has 19 wind turbines and provides power to around 16000 homes each year. They have six Vestas employees and two First Wind employees working daily to keep the turbines spinning and generating energy. The inspections, periodic repairs, and maintenance of the turbines are done daily by the staff at the site and this is important to keep everything in order. The emergency equipment is inspected on a regular basis to make sure they function effectively. A normal turbine climb takes around 10 minutes and is carried out two-four times every week. They also have a Nacelle that houses the electrical generator, which is driven by the rotating blades of the turbine powered by the forces of wind and coupled to a gearbox. The repair troubleshooting and maintenance of the components are carried out on a programmed basis as well as impulsively in case a piece of any of the equipment fails. Susan Kraemer, A Closer Look at Fossil and Renewable Energy Subsidies, June 10, 2015 This article discusses the stabilization of oil production since its advent in the 1890s. In the article, the comparison is made between the sums of money used in oil drilling when it was merely a start-up and currently when it is a multi-dollar venture. Similarly, the effects of oil exploration on the climate have been highlighted in the article. The article also largely analyses the issue of tax credit and incentives offered to the oil drilling companies. For instance, the article clarifies that during the inception period, oil production was branded with a tax-free status that enabled the mitigation of huge costs involved in the oil exploration. This eventually has enabled federal investment in the coal, oil and gas exploration. This article will be important in describing the strides made in the growth of the global energy sector. Pamela Cargill, Will Solar Plunge Off the Tax Credit Cliff? The articles main discussion is about the Federal Investment Tax Credit, which was set to expire towards the end of 2016. This would be one of the greatest solar incentives with the costs falling from thirty to zero percent for homeowners. The article informs of the intense scrutiny directed towards the clean energy incentives especially in the United States as a result of the fiscal conservations in Washington and also in several other statehouses. Consequently, the article eludes uncertainty in the environment towards the community of investors and other industry professionals. Some approaches and strategies are suggested in the article, such as the extension of the Investment Tax Credit and proper planning of its expiration. Tom Randall, Seven Reasons Cheap Oil Cant Stop Renewables The article outlines reasons why low prices of cheap oil cannot stop the use of renewables. The transition of humanity to use of clean energy cannot be sidetracked by the availability of cheap oil. This is despite the fall of the prices of oil by half which would have endangered the renewable-energy industry a few years ago. In the article, he gives reasons why low prices of oil cannot stop renewables. One of the reasons is that the sun never competes with oil. Oil is used in cars while the renewables are for producing electricity. Oil is very expensive such that it cannot power the grid even if the prices are below $50 for each barrel. Solar instead competes with natural gas, coal, nuclear power and hydro. Though solar is the newest and makes less than 1%of the market for electricity today, it is expected that by 2050 it will be the largest single source in the world according to International Energy Agency. Its demand is very high such that the only limiting factor to its installation may be panels availability. Another reason may also be the fact that the prices of electricity are still increasing. Cheap electricity is a real threat to the renewables. For instance, in the US production of power is exceedingly cheap due to the presence of abundant natural gas. Ann Kenda, Professors Solar-Powered Passive House a Real-life Physics Lesson Jl In this article the Assistant Professor of Physics Alexi Arango tells the Renewable Energy class students of the small house in Maine which is very energy efficient such that it can heat itself up without the need for a furnace. He says that the home of physics entirely operates by the power of solar. He adds that most people have disbelief about it and the concept nearly seems a fairy-tale. But once one goes through it and relates with physics then it is no longer a wild idea. He carries out a research that concentrates on the solar energy systems that are highly efficient and brings home the lessons for the course in the sense of word. He builds and moves in a passive home of 1000 square-foot that relies on the solar power for its operations. He use real-life example to explain and illustrate the concepts of physics and environmental science in the classroom. Most of the students originally were skeptical but have change to being enthusiastic about this particular project. He admits that it is unusual to do what he did but notes that in Germany the passive houses are nearly mainstream. Tom Konrad, Ten Clean Energy Stocks In this article, during the first half of 2015, there was a slight improvement in the wide market but the concerns about increasing rates of interests and the continuing drama by the Greek debt sent clean energy, income stocks and most currencies that were not US currencies down decisively. The articles classical collection highly exposes one to clean energy, income stocks, and foreign stocks. Despite there being a very stormy market for both, the collection delivers admirably. Jennifer Runyon, Tesla CTO: Bulk Energy Storage Will Grow Much Faster than People Expect In 2015, at the Intersolar in the standing-room-only, all talks were about the future of solar and how the storage of energy aided in paving a way for higher adoption of it. The director of the Fraunhofer Institute for Solar Energy Systems, Dr. Eicke R Weber, opened the show drawing the great advancement solar had made in the previous two years through stabilizing its demand and supply. It was expected that in the following years the production capacity and catching up with the market would be seen which meant that we should not anticipate further fall in the prices of PV modules but expect stabilizing of the prices and or even some uncertain increases.

Is Hate Speech in the Media Directly Affecting our Culture (responses) Assignment
Is Hate Speech in the Media Directly Affecting our Culture (responses) - Assignment Example Henry is of the opinion that the kind of culture portrayed in the media makes human being lose their sense of humanity. By watching violent behaviour on television children tend to adopt what they have seen in the media. Societal degradation is rife and rising in the name of entertainment and glorification of America. People no longer care about each other and the poor and homeless are considered lazy. In his response he states that ââ¬Ëâ⬠¦ many groups who are considered marginal because they are poor, unemployed, people of color, elderly or young have not just been excluded from the American dream but have become utterly redundant and disposable waste products of a society that no longer considers them of any valueââ¬â¢. He adds that suffering and violence is applauded and recognized in holly wood. The homeless and poor are seen as a burden to the state and instead of having compassion for the homeless, homelessness is considered a crime. He adds that sleeping, sitting, soliciting lying down or loitering in public places is considered a criminal

Critical Responses Essay Example | Topics and Well Written Essays - 1750 words
Critical Responses - Essay Example On the other hand, multiple platforms are very beneficial since they are able to break down the original concepts into items that are understood by diverse groups of people. Whenever a new entertainment platform is used, it is only sensible and appropriate to apply additional creativity so that the need for entertainment is satisfied through that other platform. Very few platforms have the capacity of retaining the original content; a change of the content out rightly results in loss of the original concepts that were highlighted by the original author (Koku, 1995). There are many examples that can be used to strengthen this position. Many people use novels as a source of entertainment by reading interesting stories that were developed by the author. The story will apply very interesting scenarios that appeals to the reader and creates a lot of reading suspense. The translation of the novel to a film brings forth other views that never featured in the novel in order to enhance the visual appeal. This means that I the process, there occurs lose in some of the original concepts while some new ones are added therein. As it is well put by Jenkins (2003), as content gets across the entertainment platforms, it is followed by enhancements through creativeness. This is termed as a distraction or corruption from the original concepts that were intended by the original author. When a concept is concept is drawn from a movie to a videogame, there are outright differences that are expected. In the first place, a videogame will be required to depict some fl exibility so that the player is able to enjoy make their own manoeuvres. However, despite the differences in some of the content there are similar concept that are applied across the board. For example, in a real football match compared to a video football game like FIFA, the rules of football follow to the letter. The difference is that the players are

Fate plays an important role in Romeo and Juliet. Who thought this four letter word would play such a big part in this play? In this play we see that the characters believe fate is what rules their lives, and that it is their reality. Their lives lie in the hands of fate. It always brings trouble, especially between the Capulet and Montague families. The fates of both Romeo and Juliet were predetermined in the prologue when it said ââ¬Å"a pair of star crossed lovers take their life.â⬠(Prologue) As their love for each other progresses, so does the ominous signs of death that show up. Characters start having premonitions and dreams of their unhappy ending. Even after the omens and signs, the lovers loved each other so deeply that they did not care about them as they just easily dismissed them. We as the audience know that Romeo and Juliet will die in the end, and their fate is shown and unraveled throughout the plot. Because as the audience we know the fate of Romeo and Juliet from the beginning, we are always hoping that they will take different paths of life. However, both their fates a...

Research, Statistics, and Psychology
Without research methods and processes, an unimaginable amount of information would be lost to the world. Though research topics and researcher personalities vary greatly, universal truths or basics of research stand the test of time. In this paper, I examine the role of research and statistics in the field of psychology by explaining several important parts of research. I define research and the scientific method. I compare and contrast the characteristics of primary and secondary data. I also define statistics and describe their role in research.Diverse fields of study use research through the scientific method, primary data, secondary data, and statistics. Professionals use research to investigate topics, discover, and interpret facts. Research is also performed to revise theories. Psychological theories are consistently revisited. One psychologist will create the base of a school of thought, but later psychologists will expand and update the original work. The scientific method i s used in research and is considered necessary for scientific investigation. The scientific method is a series of steps.Researchers identify a problem or area of interest, research to gather information, make hypothesis, empirically test hypothesis with experiments, make changes to hypothesis or tests if necessary, draw a conclusion, and write findings. According to ââ¬Å"Merriam-Websterâ⬠(2014), ââ¬Å"Many empirical sciences, especially the social sciences, use mathematical tools borrowed from probability theory and statistics, together with such outgrowths of these as decision theory, game theory, utility theory, and operations researchâ⬠(scientific method).Psychologists and researchers from other fields can use different types of data. Primary and secondary data are used in research and experiments. Primary data is data collected from first hand experience. A psychologist who observes animal or human behavior is collecting primary data. Secondary data is collected f rom the past, other people, or publications. According to ââ¬Å"Publish Your Articlesâ⬠(2012), ââ¬Å"It refers to the statistical material which is not originated by the investigator himself but obtained from someone else's recordsâ⬠(secondary data).Psychologists cannot ethically recreate situations of child abuse to learn about psychological dynamics, related stress, and immediate reactions, so referral to past research may be necessary. Primary and secondary data types pose advantages and disadvantages to researchers. Primary data can be more credible, believable, telling, and will better fit the needs of a study. However, primary data requires funding, time, and participants. Secondary data can save time and expenses, and some research will not provide the opportunity to collect primary data.A wealth of secondary data is available, but it can be painstaking to find sufficiently accurate secondary data to use. It can also be difficult for researchers to find secondar y data that precisely fits the desired area of focus. The role of statistics in research is to access and organize research data throughout various fields of study. The summation that statistics provide paints an understandable picture of data. Psychological statistics may tell the percentage of a population that experiences seasonal depression, or what type of childhood environment influences a psychological disorder, like schizophrenia.According to ââ¬Å"Bcps. orgâ⬠(2010), ââ¬Å"It is important for researchers and also consumers of research to understand statistics so that they can be informed, evaluate the credibility and usefulness of information, and make appropriate decisionsâ⬠(The role of statistics in research). Researchers must navigate through many different types of variables and levels of measurement in research. Levels of measurement, including rank-order, nominal, and equal-interval measure variables. Tables and graphs may be used to illustrate data, but statistics help researchers draw reliable conclusions. To research is to investigate, whether researching a new topic, or testing an established theory. The scientific method is an integral part of any research. Respected researchers follow the steps of the scientific method. Primary or secondary data can be used in research.Primary data is data obtained directly from the researcher. Secondary data is collected from secondary sources like articles, books, and previous experiments. Each type of data has its advantages and disadvantages, and the researcher must choose a data type. According to ââ¬Å"Bcps. orgâ⬠(2010), ââ¬Å"Statistics is the science of collecting, analyz ing and making inference from data. Statistics is a particularly useful branch of mathematics that is not only studied theoretically by advanced mathematicians but one that is used by researchers in many fieldsâ⬠(The role of statistics in research). The aspects of research reviewed are universal, despite the topic of research. However, research and statistics are undeniably valuable and influential. Human civilization should respect the process and endeavor of research because the word would be extremely different without research. For example, psychological medications and technology would not exist, and the human mind might be considered a hopeless mystery. Can Anyone Imagine the World without Communication
Can anyone imagine the world without communication? For the most of the people communication is something that comes naturally and binds them together so they can live, work, share ideas together or create something that is unique and priceless. Today life is impossible without communication, and we should be concentrated to make communication more efficient and more natural. We are living in a world full of diversity and we must find a formula how to lower the communication barrier that is present. It is important for us is to understand that communication can mean everything and itââ¬â¢s not restricted to the use of our language only. This essay will try to discuss how communication can be affected if people misinterpret the meaning, and also how non-verbal and intercultural communication can engage developing impressions that we make on other people. Perhaps the most important and difficult to explain is the meaning and effectiveness of intercultural communication. For example, Archee et all., (2013) argue that intercultural communication is related to the meaning or how individuals or a group of people can create meaning from the world around them. Other authors on the other hand, examine the importance of intercultural effectiveness (Hammer et all., 1978). For example, Gardner (1962 as cited in Hammer et all., 1978, p.382) argues that intercultural communication can be effective if there is universal communicator. According to Gardner (1962) he states that communicator mustShow MoreRelatedPros And Cons Of Life Without Technology726 Words à |à 3 PagesDid a life without technology ever exist?
